Dear Jennifer,

As concerns increase about the global spread of coronavirus disease, I am writing to offer a brief update on our operations and assure you that we are making every effort to protect our University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests during these challenging times.

Consistent with the mandate from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, UMGC's stateside operations have now transitioned to telework for nonessential state employees, and the university’s overseas operations have already taken similar steps to comply with Department of Defense directives. I am pleased to report that we have been able to maintain operational stability and continue responding to the needs of our students and our broader UMGC community. (For more information, please visit umgc.edu/coronavirus.)

As this situation develops, we are also adapting alumni event programming, benefits, and career resources to offer more online opportunities and further limit any risk of exposure to or spread of coronavirus disease. Visit alumni.umgc.edu to learn more.

Thank you for being a valued member of our global alumni community that is more than 246,000 strong and growing—and thank you for your belief in the mission of UMGC.

That mission—and our focus on the needs of the greater UMGC community—will continue to guide our path forward. Together we will learn, grow, and adapt as needed—and we will emerge stronger for it.

Sincerely,

Javier Miyares
President
